Sandustry Locator Guide — How to Find Artifacts with Void Juice
The Sandustry Locator is a utility tool for Artifact hunting, not a factory machine you place on the ground. Unlock it through Tier 5 Research, charge it with Void Juice, then use its direction indicator to repeatedly narrow down the nearest hidden Artifact in your own procedurally generated world.

What the Sandustry Locator is and how to unlock it
The Sandustry Locator is carried by the player, so do not look for a conveyor, power input, or a footprint to place in your factory. Its base scan points toward the nearest Artifact with rough direction only: it is closer to a compass than a map pin, and it does not draw a route or solve the room once you arrive.
To unlock it, first reach Tier 5 Research and spend 3,000 Gold on the Locator research. That Gold cost unlocks the tool; it is separate from Void Juice. After the research is complete, prepare Void Juice for charging rather than treating it as a Locator crafting ingredient.
Having Void Juice before Tier 5 does not skip the research requirement. Likewise, researching the Locator does not make a scan work until it is charged. Keeping those two gates separate makes the early Artifact path much less confusing. Gold advances Research, while Void Petal and Moonhop only prepare a charge after the tool exists.
How to use the Sandustry Artifact Locator to find locations
Make Void Juice by bringing 1 Void Petal and 1 Moonhop into vertical contact; the reaction produces 2 Void Juice, while placing the two materials side by side does not trigger it. Stand in the Void Juice and charge the Locator. The charge consumes the liquid and leaves Void Husk, so make enough before beginning a long Artifact search.
Use a repeatable loop: scan, travel in the displayed direction, then scan again to correct your line. Worlds are procedurally generated, so another player's fixed coordinates are not a dependable location guide. The Artifact Locations guide explains how to read that search in your own world. The base Locator gives only rough direction; the Artifact Puzzles page explains what can still block a room, while the Relic guide covers older search terminology and the Artifacts overview keeps the wider progression path in one place.
The Triangulation Lens upgrade is listed as enabling exact Artifact guidance. Until that upgrade is available, treat the direction indicator as a way to narrow an area, not proof that the closest wall is an Artifact entrance. Look for deliberate ancient structures, doors, and puzzle chambers as you close in.
Use tips and common mistakes
The most common mistake is mixing up unlock and fuel: 3,000 Gold unlocks the Tier 5 Locator, while Void Juice charges it later. A direction arrow is not an instruction to dig in a straight line, because terrain and ancient structures can sit between you and the Artifact. Scan more than once, approach structures carefully, and remember that the Locator finds a target but does not bypass the puzzle inside the room. The base tool provides rough direction; wait for the Triangulation Lens before expecting exact guidance. If a scan is not working, confirm that the tool has been charged before assuming the nearest Artifact disappeared.
